Intensives are immersions into the partnership that aids in de-escalating a crisis or challenging moments that can help partners learn how to navigate the crisis and have a roadmap to relationship restoration. Above all, they help each partner have hope.

What is an Intensive?

An intensive is a period of counseling over 3-5 days that allows you, with the assistance of a trained therapist, to get to the root of your issues.

Weekly relationship counseling is quite effective.  But, when a partnership is in crisis or feeling challenged, stuck, and overwhelmed, the start-and-stop of weekly sessions can make it difficult to get to the root cause—you come in, unpack the week, feel hopeful, go home, experience more conflict, hope goes away.

An intensive allows you the gift of uninterrupted time, which allows you to make the progress you want. Many couples report that an intensive of 3-5 days was about a year’s worth of counseling!

If you find yourselves stuck in patterns and cycles of conflict, feel distressed, or are on the brink of separation, an intensive could be right for you.

Intensives are programs designed for couples in crisis whereby a couple spends 1-3 days in Intensive Relationship Counseling.

What happens during an intensive?

  • Full days of personalized, one-on-one counseling in collaboration with the clinician, along with customized strategies, support, guidance, and solutions.

  • We work one-on-one with you and/or you and your spouse together, over a single, concentrated period of time. You can choose a 1-Day (6-hour Intensive) or a 2-Day (12-hour Intensive).

  • Together we gather information, explore issues, and teach strategies, skills, and techniques to help you resolve and heal your relationship issues.

  • Increase clarity on what has happened in your partnership and how both of you contributed to where you are now.

  • Find creative and personalized solutions to your issues that have kept you stuck in repeating patterns of gridlock, and conflict, and kept you in loops of unmet needs.

  • You will gain insight and perspective that will help you have a greater understanding of what you want and need from your partner, how to get that, and how to reciprocate in powerful ways.

  • Learn new relationship skills appropriate for your current crisis while developing a roadmap for the future relationship together.

  • We collaborate on specific home assignments and techniques that help you maintain the work you do. We also discuss follow-up care to help you sustain the change you desire.

  • Using compassion and loving-kindness to learn how to hold space for each other in order to move beyond shame and blame.

Intensives are not for everyone.

Intensives are not a fast cure. In therapy, there is no such thing as a quick fix for issues that took a long long time to form. You may require additional support after the intensive. Our intention with intensives is to help you get to the root of your problem and put your relationship on a road of healing and connection

Both partners must be emotionally stable to attend intensives. Clients with untreated personality disorders, mood disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, or who are in danger of harming themselves, may not be good candidates for Intensives.

Intensives can provide immediate, concentrated attention at a time when couples are in massive distress.

Common issues intensives may help:

  • Communication: crisis and pain they want immediate solutions and strategies to save the marriage.

  • Infidelity

  • Intimacy and  Sexual Issues

  • Financial Strains

  • Blended Families

  • The Juncture of Pending Divorce

  • Gridlocked Marriage that needs a Jumpstart

  • Children, and Career Conflicts that need Immediate Attention and Resolution

  • Partners who are in Weekly Counseling want More Support and want Concentrated Days Devoted to their Issues and Relationship.
